Interior Design Ideas: Designing On A Budget

0

You have had had it with the look of your living room. If you have to spend one more night in your lackluster bedroom, you’re going to scream. No matter the reason, you want to redecorate your home’s interior, but you want to decorate on a budget.

The good news is that even if you only have $100 to spend, you can change the look of at least one room. Redecorating can be a fairly simple undertaking if you get creative with your money. From painting to repurposing, you can give your interior a facelift on a dime. Here are five easy projects that will have the biggest impact on your home for the least amount of money.

1. Painting

Painting is the easiest and quickest way to change the look of a room. What many people don’t know is that stores that sell paint often sell paint that has been tinted the wrong color at a steep discount. Keep your eye on this section of paint in your local store. Wait for a can or two with a color that you love to show up and grab it.

Colors have different meanings. While your favorite shade of purple may not be right for your bedroom, that lovely shade of green that someone didn’t want could be perfect. Don’t make up your mind about a color and miss out on the fabulous deals in the section of mistakes. Think outside of your comfort zone and choose a color that you may not have paid full price for and experiment. You might be surprised at how beautiful the color looks on your walls.

2. Repurpose

With a few tubes of craft paint, paper, glue, wood stain, and even fabric, you can repurpose almost anything in your home. Look to your favorite magazines and websites like the LA Times Home and Garden section for inspiration. If you’re tired of your old coffee table, repurpose it and make it a television stand. When you grow tired of your end tables, turn them into nightstands. Look at your home’s accessories with a new eye and move them from room to room for a new design.

3. Window Treatments

Window treatments don’t need to come from the department store. You can easily create window treatments at home that are to die for. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars pre-made window treatments, buy a few flat sheets at the bargain store or use some you already have. An iron and hem tape are all you need to create window coverings that will instantly transform your room.

Alternatively, string old CDs together by drilling small holes at the top and bottom and tying them to one another with fishing line. Hang several strands of these CDs from a curtain rod. These fun and funky window treatments are fabulous for a playroom or office.

4. Accessories

The Woodlands Remodeling and Design Services center says, “The next time you have a free weekend, scour the local garage sales and flea markets. You may be surprised at the amazing treasures you will find. Look for unique way to use items. Old trophies can be disassembled and made into coat racks. Old farm tools may look wonderful hanging in your country kitchen.” Try to look at the items you find with a fresh eye, and don’t forget to haggle for a better price.

5. Lighting

If you are going to splurge on anything, make it lighting. The right lighting can make a room look fresh and new. Rooms that you use often should have lighting on three different levels: ceiling, floor and eye level. If you don’t have the right lighting in your room, adding what you need can change the room’s look dramatically. If you’re feeling crafty, construct lamps following tutorials that are easily found online.

You don’t have to be a rock star with an endless supply of cash to redecorate your home. With a bit of imagination and creativity, you can redecorate your home with a style that is all your own. You can transform any room in your home for less than you think.
