Indoor Cycling: Top 3 Health Benefits of Spin Classes

0

Not all fitness plans work. Thousands of people head to the gym every day only to waste an hour or two doing exercises that don’t work. While lifting weights or running on a treadmill may work for some consumers, others may find that all their hard work is all for nothing.

Spin class is a great alternative to most mainstream gym workouts. If you find that spending hours doing the same workout isn’t producing the results you hoped for or your busy schedule doesn’t allow for adequate time at the gym, consider enrolling in one of your local spin classes.

Burn more Calories in Less Time

According to the Huffington Post, most participants will burn between 400 and 600 calories in one 45 minute spin session. This is more than many people burn in an hour and a half of lifting weights and running on the treadmill.

Burning more calories than you consume on a daily basis is how you lose weight. Burning 500 calories at spin class and talking a daily walk during lunch while maintaining a healthy diet will help you reach your goal.

Burning more calories in less time is one of the attractions of spin class for busy professionals.

Spin Classes Incorporate Interval Training

Recent studies have shown that interval training is one of the best ways to lose weight because your metabolic rate stays consistently high through the entire workout. At the same time exercise enthusiasts won’t feel fatigued until after the workout.

We talked with Empower Cycling Studio about how it works, and they explained, “spin classes do this by requiring participants to cycle hard uphill with more resistance for a certain amount of time followed by cycling with less resistance at a flatter angle. The easier parts of interval training last just long enough to provide relief for class participants.”

Spin Class Teachers Focus on Motivation

Spin class is not for individuals. You may come to class alone but you won’t be the only participant.

Every class has at least a handful of participants who cycle together and motivate each other. The spin class teacher not only acts as the moderator but also the motivator. He or she will tell you to push yourself harder if you’re slacking. They are responsible for choosing music that is intended to help you push yourself and take your mind off the fact that your body is mentally tired.

With all the motivation that surrounds you, the pain you feel during spin class will be a thing of the pass. Before you know it, class will be over and you’ll start to notice the results after only a few weeks.

While motivation is one of the many benefits that you can enjoy when joining your local spin class, much of the motivation to actually go will come within.

If you’re still not convinced that spin class is for you, consider the fact that, in a recent interview, Fox News spoke with a woman who took spin classes all the way through her nine months of pregnancy. Spin class was the one exercise that she used to help keep additional weight off during the nine months she was pregnant, which is both good for the mother and the baby.

The best way to lose weight is to participate in interval training exercises. When looking for a potential class to join, see if you can participate in a free trial. Many class instructors will incorporate upper body exercises with the cycling itself to maximize total body results. If you’re unable to handle these types of exercises, work on the cycling part first and incorporate the upper body workouts later.
