Being in pain is never pleasant and unfortunately, it is a part of life. While some pain is only temporary such as if you stub your toe, some pain can be chronic especially if it is the result of a fall or accident. Thankfully there are some solutions to help alleviate pain and sometimes make it go away for good. Let’s examine some of these solutions in greater detail.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical technique. It is the stimulation of specific points in the skin of the body through the insertion of very thin needles. It can also involve the application of heat, pressure or laser. It works through the belief that stimulating specific acupuncture points corrects imbalances in the body. Imbalances such as pain and tension. Acupuncture does have a mystical side to it and it is based on the belief that there is an invisible force that flows through the body called qi. This qi flows up and down through the body in 14 meridians and pain is because of a blockage in the qi. By inserting the needles in precise points in the body, it is possible to unblock the meridians and allow the qi to flow freely again relieving the ailment. The Wall Street Journal discusses the benefits of Acupuncture.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic treatment centers around the spine and the nervous system. When you to a chiropractor you can expect a full exam including x-rays. They will examine the x-rays to see if there are any misalignments or problems with your spine. For example if one vertebrae is off and is putting pressure on a nerve that could be causing pain. The most common therapeutic procedure performed chiropractors is called spinal manipulation or adjustments. Chiropractors perform manipulations is to relieve nerve pressure and restore joint mobility. They do this by using their hands to apply force force in a controlled manner into joints that have become restricted in their movement. Manipulation, or adjustment of the affected joint relieves pressure and restores mobility which in turn alleviates pain. Chiropractors also offer many other services such as massage, diet consultation, and cleansing of impurities in the body. They focus on whole body wellness.

Drug Therapy

According to hopepaincenters.org, chronic pain is an increasing problem in our world and more and more doctors have been trained in pain therapy. If you have tried the other approaches without success or you are just looking for a more traditional way to treat your pain, drug therapy may work for you. The first thing to do is to find a good quality doctor who specializes in pain management and make an appointment to be seen. At your appointment you can expect to answer a lot of questions about the history and nature of your injury or chronic pain as well as undergo a physical exam to see where your pain is coming from. Once the doctor has made a diagnosis he will recommend a drug or combination of drugs for you to take to manage your symptoms. Be sure to follow the doctor’s exact orders regarding these medications as many of them are quite potent and are also addictive. Also don’t get frustrated if the first prescription doesn’t work for you, it may take time for the doctor to get the exact medication combination that your body needs to rid itself of the pain, but with time, it will happen.

Pain is never a pleasant experience, but as you can see there are options for managing it and sometimes eradicating it all together. You just need to be patient, be open minded and willing to try different options until you find the one that works best for you. Relief is out there and it is possible, so don’t give up until you find the solution that helps you to manage your pain successfully.
