EDM: What to Wear

0

Your first electronic dance music (EDM) festival will be amazing. This genre of music only continues to grow in popularity, and more and more people are becoming aware of the amazing sounds that can come out of it. The overall number of attendees to these festivals is more than overwhelming. These events are music festivals, but more than that, they are dance festivals. The word is in the name: electronic dance music. It’s music for dancing! And because of this, the dress for these festivals is vibrant, fun and exotic to say the least. Whether your first EDM festival is on the horizon or you’ve already been to many of these amazing events, here’s a comprehensive list of the things you’ll want to take into consideration concerning what to wear.

Think Big, Bold, Bright and Beautiful

Electronic dance music is bold and exciting, and this calls for bold and exciting clothing too. The trend of clothes is typically called rave wear, so that’s what you’ll want to focus on when online shopping or scouring your local streets for boutiques that sell the stuff. Rave wear is colorful, shiny, bright and loud. Combine colors that don’t match, and steer away from colors like mauve, taupe, brown, gray and black.

Show a Little Skin

You don’t have to be too flashy, and you should never feel uncomfortable, but showing some skin at EDM concerts is not rare. Girls are often seen in super tight leggings, two piece outfits that show off the stomach and colorful, frayed tops or skirts. No one is wearing political protest clothing or words on their shirts that speak to non-open minded viewpoints. To the contrary, people want to be friendly, close and happy at these concerts. The focus is on fun, happiness and joy. Finally, remember to be comfortable. If you don’t feel okay wearing a belly shirt, don’t. Also don’t wear clothing that is so tight you can’t breathe. You’ll be dancing after all, so you should have stretchy, breathable fabrics on for optimal comfort.

Guild Yourself in Flashy Jewels

Many EDM festival goers love jewelry, so you’ll want to make sure you have some jewels as well. No, don’t wear those diamond studded earrings your mom gave you for your 16th birthday. Instead, think big and bold again. Go for beaded jewelry or Kandi as it is sometimes called. Women wear fluffies as well. Flufflies are essentially fluffy leg warmers made out of colored fur. They’re thick and warm and actually a great accessory for concerts that might be a little chilly if outdoors. A ton of online rave wear sites sell fluffies, rave jewelry and more.

Bring a Sack or Pack and Pack Smart!

Lastly, remember that a festival like this is not a middle school party at a friend’s house. You’ll need to have your resources with you. The first thing to do is to make sure the festival even allows the use of purses, packs, backpacks or bags of any kind. Often, they won’t, so make sure you can take something like this in before you get there and discover you’ll need to ditch it or stay outside.

EDM store iedm.com reminds attendees, “Don’t get too crazy with what you take with you because remember, you’ll have to hold it and dance around with it the whole time. The cute but uncomfortable headdress might be tons of fun, but do you really want to wear it or hold it in your pack for the entire event?” You probably won’t, so don’t bring stuff like that. Instead, pack an extra top or shift dress, a bottle of water for rehydration, your cellphone and charger or extra battery, some deodorant, a holder for money, an ID and other necessities. You might also want to bring a set of earplugs if you know you’ll be dancing close to the stage and the speakers. Believe us, you’ll still be able to hear the music and have a great time!
